Jose Ponce

Mr. Jose Ponce is a 8th degree black belt in American Kenpo Karate with 42 years experience in martial arts. He has been teaching in the metropolitan area for over 20 years. Mr. Ponce's students are children, men and women from ages 3 to 70 years old. Many adult students come from diverse branches of law enforcement.

Mr. Ponce has trained with many of the most prominent American Kenpo instructors in the world including; Grand Master Tony Cogliandro 10th degree black belt, Master Frank Trejo, Master Larry Tatum, Master Huk Planas, Master Paul Dye, Master Bob White, Master John Sepulveda, Master Lee Wedlake, Mr. Jeff Speakman, Mr. Brian Heins and Mr. Tabatabai, just to mention a few. Mr. Ponce also holds black belts in Hawaiian Kenpo and Shotokan Karate-do. He also has been training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Filipino Blade Systems. Mr. Ponce is the Virginia state representative for American Kenpo International (AKI) and is the only high ranked black belt teaching American Kenpo Karate in the metropolitan area.

John Wojcik

Mr. Wojcik has been training in the martial arts for over fifteen years.  John serves as the Senior Instructor at AKKA and has been with the academy since its stand up.  Direct study under Mr. Jose Ponce has also provided him with the opportunity to train with some of the most recognized Kenpo practitioners in the world such as Master Larry tatum, Master Huk Planas and Jeff Speakman.

Lawrence Jones

Mr. Lawrence joined Sensei Ponce in 2002 where he obtained his 2nd and 3rd degree Black Belt. He has been with Mr. Jose Ponce for 15 years. He received his 1st degree Black Belt under the guidance of Mr. Williams in Woodbridge, Va. He has also attended many seminars taught by Masters such as: Master Huk Planas, Master Larry Tatum, Master Paul Mills and Mr. Jeff Speakmen. Has also studied Sayok.

Ron Roof

2017 marks Ron’s 31st anniversary studing the martial arts. Ron began his formal martial arts study in Raleigh NC at Karate International under Mr. Rob Olevsky. Later, as a Raleigh Police Officer, Ron studied Aikido and self-defense. Ron began studying Ed Parker’s American Kenpo Karate, in 1993 under Mr. Jack Morris in Tallahassee, Florida. In 1996, Ron earned his first-degree black belt in American Kenpo Karate from Mr. Morris. While continuing his study of Kenpo, Ron spent the next several years of dedaced study with several combative styles in the military and federal government. In 2009, Ron returned to full time study of American Kenpo Karate with Mr. Jose Ponce; Mr Ponce awarded Ron his second-degree black belt in 2013. Through the years, Ron has attended several Kenpo, as well as other martial arts, seminars, courses and camps and has had the opproutnity to learn from some of the leaders in the martial arts. Ron has been teaching martial arts and combatives since 1996.
